Welcome to Hey Friend. By using Hey Friend, you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully.

Hey Friend is provided by SHL Family LLC, a California limited liability company (“Hey Friend,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). When we say “Hey Friend” in these Terms, we mean SHL Family LLC and all services, products, and features we offer under the Hey Friend brand.

1. What We Provide

Hey Friend provides a daily SMS accountability service that allows you to write personal messages to your future self and receive them via text message every day at your chosen time. We believe in the power of your own words to create meaningful change in your daily life.

Hey Friend is a personal accountability tool. It is not a mental health service, crisis service, medical advice platform, or a substitute for professional therapy or medical treatment.

2. Using Hey Friend

Who can use Hey Friend:

You may use Hey Friend if you are 18 years of age or older and are not barred from using our services under applicable law. Hey Friend is currently available to users in the United States.

What you can do:

When you use Hey Friend, you agree to use our services only in a manner consistent with these Terms and applicable laws. You agree that you will not misuse our services, interfere with their normal operation, or attempt to access them in a manner other than through the interface we provide.

3. Your Account

To use Hey Friend, you provide your name, email address, and phone number. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account information and for all activity that occurs under your account. Please notify us immediately at hey@heyfriend.me if you suspect any unauthorized use of your account.

4. SMS Messaging

By providing your phone number and checking the consent checkbox on our sign-up form, you agree to receive daily SMS messages from Hey Friend. Here is what you should know:

  • Messages are sent once per day at your chosen delivery time
  • Message and data rates may apply based on your mobile carrier plan
  • You can stop receiving messages at any time by replying STOP
  • Reply HELP at any time for support information
  • Hey Friend is not responsible for mobile carrier charges

5. Payment Terms

Hey Friend offers the following:

  • A 7-day free trial with full access to Hey Friend features
  • A monthly subscription at $9.99 per month after the free trial
  • Subscriptions automatically renew each month until cancelled

You can cancel at any time by contacting hey@heyfriend.me. Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period. We consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us within 7 days of a charge if you have a concern.

We reserve the right to change our pricing. We will give you reasonable advance notice of any price changes. Continued use of Hey Friend after a price change takes effect constitutes your agreement to the new price.

6. Your Content

Hey Friend allows you to submit personal messages that we deliver back to you via SMS. You retain ownership of the content you submit. By submitting content, you grant Hey Friend a limited license to use that content solely to provide the service to you — specifically, to store and deliver your messages as directed by you.

You are responsible for the content you submit. You agree not to submit content that violates any law, infringes on any third party rights, or contains harmful, threatening, or abusive material.

7. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy describes how we handle the information you provide to us when you use Hey Friend. You understand that through your use of Hey Friend you consent to the collection and use of this information as set out in our Privacy Policy, available at heyfriend.me/privacy-policy.

8. Software and Updates

We are constantly improving Hey Friend. This means we may add or remove features, and we may suspend or stop a service altogether. You agree that Hey Friend has no obligation to provide any specific content or maintain a particular feature.

9. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability

Hey Friend is provided “as is”:

To the extent permitted by law, we provide Hey Friend without any warranty, express or implied. We do not guarantee that our services will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.

Limitation of liability:

To the extent permitted by law, SHL Family LLC will not be responsible for lost profits, revenues, or data, financial losses, or indirect, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from your use of Hey Friend. Our total liability for any claims under these Terms is limited to the amount you paid us in the 30 days before the claim arose.

10. Mental Health

Hey Friend is a personal accountability and wellness tool only. We are not a mental health service or crisis intervention service. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please reach out to professional resources:

11. Settling Disputes

If you have a concern or dispute about Hey Friend, we encourage you to first contact us directly at hey@heyfriend.me. We will do our best to resolve any issues quickly and fairly.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States. Any legal disputes that cannot be resolved informally shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the State of California.

12. About These Terms

We may modify these Terms or any additional terms that apply to a service to reflect changes to the law or changes to our services. You should look at these Terms regularly. We will post notice of modifications to these Terms on this page.

If you do not agree to the modified Terms, you should discontinue your use of Hey Friend. Your continued use of Hey Friend after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and SHL Family LLC regarding Hey Friend and supersede any prior agreements between you and SHL Family LLC relating to Hey Friend.
